I will be presenting at the CAA panel commemorating the centennial of Kandinsky's Concerning the Spiritual in Art. My discussion will focus on the reception of Kandinsky's work in Russia, particularly of a draft that was read before publication.  Concerning the Spiritual in Art was presented in Russia during a period of heated discussion over the role of traditional religion in modern life--my paper explores the notion of Kandinsky's spiritualist approach as an alternative to official religion.
