Her recent co-authored book "Buzz: Urban Beekeeping and the Power of the Bee," (NYU Press) is a multispecies ethnography that explores the spaces/places in which insects and humans co-exist and collide. "Buzz" won the 2014 Distinguished Scholarship Award presented by the Animals & Society section of the American Sociological Association. Her current research is on NYC visual artists who negotiate the difficult location somewhere between after art school and almost professional -- the 99% of the New York Artworld. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the New School for Social Research and is co-founder of GCA, an exhibition space in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
