Lorraine Plourde received her PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from Columbia University and her MA in Ethnomusicology from the University of Washington. She has conducted ethnographic research on experimental music in Tokyo since 2000. Her research has been funded by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), Fulbright-Hays, and the Northeast Asia Council for the Association for Asian Studies. Her academic interests include avant-garde and experimental aesthetics, sound studies, anthropology of the senses, and animal studies. In addition to her appointment in media, society, and the arts, she is also a contributing faculty member in anthropology.
