Alexis Silver is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department and a member of the faculty and advisory board of the Latin American Studies Program at SUNY-Purchase. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011. Her current research focuses on issues of membership and belonging for immigrant youth, with a particular focus on Latina/o immigrant and second generation youth in the American South. Additionally, she is involved in another research project examining transnational families in a bi-national social field spanning the U.S. and Mexico. Finally, she is beginning a new project with return migrants in Mexico. This projects continues her work on membership and belonging, and focuses on young adults who went to high school in the U.S., but have since returned to Mexico.
